Never The Sam Selves

In its simplest form, memory is a continuous process of storing information over time. It allows us to remember and draw on past events to frame our understanding and behavior in the present. Thus, our existing views of ourselves are influenced by what we remember about our own past – and thus the past influences the present. In Never The Same Selves, we will focus our investigation on the reciprocal relationship between memory and identity, and how our experience of time plays a crucial role in the hold our memory has over us.

Dancer and choreographer Tim Matiakis and musician and composer Katrine Grarup Elbo, want to focus this experiment on exploring methods and practices that can support the development of artistic material that both relates to the experiment’s questions and creates an internal logic between the choreographic and musical universe.
An attempt to create space for artistic research between our two disciplines.
