SPLASTIC – From experiment to performance
In 2014, Daily Fiction conducted an experiment at the Experimental Station on the potential of spastic movement. It has been developed into a performance – a performative study:
SPLASTIC
21-23 January 2016 at 19.00 in Dansehallerne.

Cath is a spastic. The first time she saw a choreography by Tora Balslev, she said: “You dance my dance”. In SPLASTIC, they perform a synchronous dance in which Tora translates Cath’s movements into her own body. In doubling, the perspective changes, a new order emerges, and Cath becomes the essence of the new structure. The performance highlights how we can move away from focusing on what a spastic cannot do and start appreciating what he/she can do. The performance’s methodological starting point is image work, which has its origins in Butoh dance, a Japanese art form that breaks with everything we normally associate with beauty and harmony. In SPLASTIC, Daily Fiction’s philosophical starting point is phenomenology, which shows that our thoughts and awareness of ourselves emerge through movement.
