Mask workshop

This intensive workshop is an opportunity to explore mask and movement-based theater. The mask that covers the actor’s face and all its countless expressive possibilities completely transforms the way we explore the expressiveness of the body and its relation to space. This gives the actor a more sensitive and dramatic expression and a richer and more articulated gesture. The mask is an essential reference that allows us to find a deeper authenticity in the presence on stage.

Matteo Destro began his theatrical career shortly after graduating with a master’s degree in Pedagogy,
wearing a red nose and devoting himself to street art. His desire to further his theatre training led him to
study with Jacques Lecoq at his École Internationale de Théâtre in Paris, where he also studied with
Norman Taylor, Pierre Byland and Alain Gautré. During his time at Lecoq’s school, Matteo began to explore
the art of masks, movement and theatrical creation. Over time, this research has become the core of his
artistic practice.

Since 2016, he has been the founder and director of ATELIER Mask Movement Theatre, an international
school/workshop for research and theatre creation based in San Miniato in the province of Pisa.
