The format is a kaleidoscopic exploration of some of the Caribbean\u2019s many contributions to our understanding of the world. The Caribbean is a place where global North-South inequalities are laid bare from both a contemporary and historical perspective. But the Caribbean is also a place where modern society is founded on both good and evil, a multicultural melting pot since Columbus\u2014and indeed even before\u2014a place of exchange for full cultural expression. This is what has nurtured a long line of writers\u2014from poetry, through literature and art, to non-traditional scholars\u2014who have explored global relations by turning things upside down. Often in hybrid formats, such as when Aim\u00e9 C\u00e9saire writes about anticolonialism while employing poetry and drama as forms, or Frantz Fanon\u2019s anticolonial works, which rethink the world through an anticolonial psychiatric perspective. Or Michel-Rolph Trouillot, who reimagines the Western image of the Haitian people, thereby challenging the Western self-understanding of the American and French revolutions. Or a long line of authors\u2014some from the Anglophone world, others from the Francophone and Hispanophone worlds\u2014who, through fictional universes, interpret Caribbean cultural history\u2014and Western history in particular\u2014through the lens of diaspora literature.
