THE GREAT RENEWAL<\/h1>\n

study of european avant-garde theatre between 1890 and 1930<\/strong><\/p>\n

What shoulders do we stand on when we think we are inventing the wheel in our rehearsal room? Is the modern
\nor no more than a motley collection of variations and cross-cuts of what is
\nwas new and modern more than 100 years ago?
\nThe experimental station organizes three Thursday evenings with instructor and cand.mag. in theatre studies Marc van
\nder Velden – a small study circle, which offers you an introductory meeting with and insight into 40
\ndecisive year in the development of the European theatre avant-garde.
\nIn addition to Stanislavski, Meyerhold and Brecht, we also meet Edward Gordon Craig, Isadora Duncan and Antonin
\nArtaud and become acquainted with many other names from the period between 1890 and 1930. Every Thursday evening
\nwe also read some of their theoretical texts and look at a large visual material which places
\ndevelopment of theatre in a larger political, social and artistic context.
\nA week before each session, a few texts will be sent out, which we expect you to have read before the
\nsubsequent meeting<\/p>\n

\nMarc van der Velden, born 1956 in Tilburg, the Netherlands, actor, director, dramaturg and playwright.
\nCand. MA in Film and Theatre Studies at Utrecht University.
\nSince his arrival in Denmark in 1988, he has won acclaim as a director and playwright for his
\nproductions for children and young people, several of which have received awards and nominations.
\nco-director of Theater La Balance, from 2005 – 2009 of the State Ensemble for Children’s Theater Corona La Balance and from
\n2010 – 2020 by ZeBU, small large byte theatre in Copenhagen. From 2021 he works freelance<\/p>\n
