Release of documentary on the SOUND OF THE PUBLIC Turin 2018

We are proud to share with the world the just finished documentary about our Torino version of the SOUND OF PUBLIC! Helle Lyshøj and Lotte Faarup have put together a short film about the project which, among other things, gives a glimpse into the engine room when the Experimental Station team, together with composer (and choirmaster) Peter Bruun, recreates the work for a conference at the University of Turin – with a group of very different people from Turin.

Read the press release here (https://www.forsoegsstationen.dk/2018/12/07/pressemeddelelse-filmen-udgivet/) .

Platform on 14 December from 17-21

Photos: small potpourri from the season’s trials
We held the bi-annual Platform among the season’s trials on Friday 14 December from 17-21.

It was an evening of great conversations across disciplines and artistic practices.

In addition to the announced trials of knowledge sharing, we showed the documentary on the SOUND OF PUBLIC Turin 2018. It has become very good and we get many nice shots on it.

The experimental station is planning more audience projects in the future.

Upcoming activities

The Experimental Station would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Nadine George workshop 2019
Photos: Øyvind Kirchhoff
The annual Nadine George Voice Work workshop, taught by Nadine George, will be held this season during week 18 – Monday 29 April through Saturday 4 May 2019. The workshop is aimed at all performing artists, regardless of previous experience with this work.
The workshop is an annual offer for performing artists, members and non-members. Nadine George’s technique is an integral part of our DNA at the Experiment Station and we offer members ongoing basic training in this work. There is voice training with Angelina Watson every Wednesday at 9-10:45 where you can keep up the technique. Read more about it here (https://www.forsoegsstationen.dk/stemmetraening/) .

You can register for the course with Nadine George by writing to rikke@forsoegsstationen.dk. Places are limited so you need to be quick. Price and other information are available here (https://www.forsoegsstationen.dk/workshop/nadine-george-workshop-2019/) .

DECEMBER

IN IN
Photo: Øyvind Kirchhoff
DANS DANS DANS is intended as a forum where independent dance artists meet, train and explore together. The experiment has been developed by Ellen Kilsgaard through several previous experimental works, with a curiosity about the development of community around her own practice as a dancer and choreographer.

Read more about the trial here (https://www.forsoegsstationen.dk/forsoeg/dans-dans-dans/) .

What is an experiment?
– creation of a working demonstration on practice-based artistic research.

Photo: Øyvind Kirchhoff
The 18/19 season experiment aims to develop a working demonstration that makes visible how limitations, physical constraints and obstructions can release and create new possibilities for the work and expression of actors and puppeteers. The working demonstration is an artistic and pedagogical form that emphasises communication and learning. The audience is drawn behind the stage curtain and into the creative space. The experiment is led by Lotte Faarup and Øyvind Kirchhoff. Other actors are Rolf Søborg Hansen and Bjarne Kalhøj.
The project is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.

Pssst!!!
In the next newsletter we will share a film about the working demonstration by Helle Lyshøj and Lotte Faarup.
Read more about the trial here (https://www.forsoegsstationen.dk/forsoeg/hvad-er-et-forsoeg/) .

“Teaching Each Other Lab”
– a study of non-hierarchical learning in the performing arts

Photo: Jörn Burmeister Wium
Everyone has experience that can be turned into material that can be developed into a performance or a show. The experimental team invites a wide range of people to take part in two days of labs, where participants explore and share with each other what they each ‘master’, based on the premise that everyone masters their own practice and has knowledge that can be shared and bring new perspectives to the group.

The team behind the experiment is Jorge Tadeo Baldéon, interdisciplinary artist and creative producer from Lima, Peru, Jörn Burmester Wium, performance artist, curator and dramaturg from Berlin/Copenhagen and Dorte Burmester Wium, creative producer Copenhagen/Berlin.
The project has received support from the Danish Arts Foundation.

STRIKT
– How does fear affect your life and how much of a risk are you willing to take?

Photo: My Lindblad Szlavik
Choreographer My Lindblad Szlavik from Stands&Dans is leading the experiment, which will use the square as a metaphor for a “safe and secure zone”, inspired by the film “The Square”. As long as you move inside the square you are safe, but as soon as you leave it you are exposed to the unknown and uncertain. How willing are you to leave your comfort zone? In addition to My Lindblad Szlavik, the experimental team consists of Jørgen Teller, composer & musician, Maria Laurette Friis, composer & musician, and dancers Ida Frost & Nanna Hanfgarn Jensen.

Read more about the trial here (https://www.forsoegsstationen.dk/forsoeg/strikt/) .

To Those Who Wait
– Can a one second dance be just as valuable as a one hour dance?

Choreographer Declan Whitaker leads the experiment “To Those Who Wait” which explores how work length and audience engagement interact in an age where we are under great pressure with constant access to stimulating material on various platforms. Other participants are dancers Simea Cavelti, Celina Liesegang and Riccardo Tarocco and sound designer Daniel Harle.

Read more about the trial here (https://www.forsoegsstationen.dk/forsoeg/to-those-who-wait/) .

Special for members
Use the network!

We would like to encourage members to use this unique network (which many already do – not least via the facebook group “Forsøgsstationen intern” (https://www.facebook.com/groups/944010352410912/) ) – both in the form of invitations to screenings of trials or rehearsals, but of course also when it is time to play a performance.

Christmas Lunch 2018

On Saturday 8 December we held this year’s Christmas party – with all kinds of food brought by the participants themselves. There was entertainment with Swedish drinking songs, monologue, sharp political satire and not least this year’s QUIZZ delivered by Marc van der Velden. The quiz was a blast and this year’s winners were overcome with selfie euphoria at having won…

As always, a fun and convivial evening of laughing and talking and dancing and getting to know each other a little better (who are the good winners and losers, for example…) We are already looking forward to next year’s celebration of the holiday!
